My children are currently studying and they still stay at home. I’m wary of them becoming permanent students. How should I ease them into financial independence and what is an appropriate age for this?
We are clearly amazing parents because more and more children are happy to stay at home! I couldn’t wait to get my independence and leave home. I think it starts with having an open and honest discussion about how long you are prepared to support them. My mother was not in a position to support me in my honours degree so I worked and studied nights. Give them warning so they know what their obligations are and then carry through with it. Your retirement fund can’t support a perpetual student!
